Embracing a culturally safe environment
The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) is a not-for-profit organisation responsible for training emergency physicians and advancement of professional standards in emergency medicine in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
ACEM required a First Nations visual identity that encapsulated ACEM’s core values of aiming to increase the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the emergency department workforce and to promote cultural safety and create a sense of trust in emergency departments across Australia.
This artwork design depicts a person of empowerment, representing the importance of improving cultural safety and wellbeing for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Australia. The surrounding shape eludes to a safety barrier or a protective shield. The inner patterning represents the many and varied employment pathways for recruitment within ACEM for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander trainees and administrators.
