Newport Power Station

Honouring the Traditional Owners of Newport

Newport Power Station is located on the west bank of the Yarra River, approximately 6km south-west of Melbourne. We created an artwork that would be featured in a boardroom wall mural, posters and as a welcome sign installed within an existing rockface at the power station.

This design depicts a short-finned eel to recognise the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung peoples as the Traditional Owners and custodians of the land on which Newport Power Station operates. The short-finned eel is featured entwined around the central Newport location with the inscribed flowing pattern illustrating the inflow of natural gas and water from the Yarra river on the left side, and the steam generated power emanating from the right side of the eel.
