Walking from Melbourne to Canberra is a very long way!
Michael Long played for the Essendon Football Club between 1989 and 2001 and was a member of two premiership sides and the winner of the 1993 Norm Smith Medal. Michael decided that something needed to be done about the plight of his people and resolved to meet the then Prime Minister, John Howard to discuss his concerns.
On 21 November 2004, Michael Long embarked on an historic trek, walking from his home in Melbourne to Parliament House in Canberra – more than 650 km away. Michael was joined on the road by Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal supporters from all over Australia. The Long Walk is now commemorated every year in May at the Dreamtime Match between the Richmond and Essendon Football Clubs.
We created the brand imagery that appeared on all the promotional materials each year for The Long Walk since 2016. We have now created the main brandmark that features the feet imagery in a contemporary and colourful feel.
