Grief Australia

Shining a light on darkness

Grief Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that provides counselling, training, and research on all forms of grief. They support grieving Australians through advocacy, and evidence-informed practice and education. Grief is not just about the death of a loved one, grief can also be experienced with stolen generation, chronic disease and aging.

Grief Australia commissioned us to create a visual identity aligned with their vision where all grieving people are understood, respected and supported. This design represents Grief Australia developing and building strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples throughout Australia. The centre circle represents Grief Australia, an organisation committed to cultivating an inclusive, holistic culture based on respect and integrity.

The wavy pathways from the centre symbolise the oscillating emotions, where confrontation and avoidance of different stressors are experienced by a bereaved person.

Surrounding the centre are five circular formations symbolising the five Reconciliation Action Plan commitments by Grief Australia. The outer dots reduce in size, which expresses the acceptance phase by a bereaved person – where the intense feelings of grief slowly subside.
